First day at Harvard
The John Harvard statue - Harvard was the first major benefactor to the University but there was no likeness of him on which to base the statue. In 1884, Daniel Chester French created the famous statue, and Sherman Hoar sat as a model for the head of John Harvard.
Charles Sumner was an academic lawyer, senator, politician, and was the head of the anti-slavery forces in Massachusetts.

The Longfellow Hall was the site of today's lectures.

Dinner and drinks were at the Cambridge Queen's Head pub.
In my mind it was mandatory to have a Harvard 1636 Ale.
